Environment Positive Impact in 2020
Is living a sustainable life part of your New Year’s Resolution list? Perhaps you have added “reduce your carbon footprint” as a resolution this year. If these concepts are something that are not far from your mind, but you are not quite sure how to put them into action, this is the list for you. Read on to see this years list of how you can make a positive environmental impact in 2020.
One of the most impact ways individuals can help the environment is by going solar. Our electricity usage and the carbon output that it causes is one. Fortunately, and perhaps surprisingly, you can easily choose where your electricity comes from. Obviously as a solar energy company, we fully endorse the positive impacts that adding a solar energy system can do for our planet. As mentioned in our last blog post, solar energy users save, annually, as much as 75 million barrels of oil and 35 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
Another area where humans need to consider cutting back on water consumption. According to Ashley Paskill of FastWeb, “Water is wasted more frequently than we can see. Turn off the faucet as you are brushing your teeth. Don’t turn your shower on until you’re ready to get in and wash your hair. Limit your water usage as you wash dishes. Changing old habits will be good for both the environment and your wallet!”
Reduce, Recycle, & Reuse
In order to cut back on our landfill usage, try to cut back on things that you use often. At this point, we should all be recycling our plastics, metal, glass, paper, and cardboard. Make it your goal this year to practice the three “Rs” as they relate to your life.
Travel with the Environment in Mind
Commuting to work is no fun for any of us, especially when traffic is a mess. Consider starting your new year with a commitment to carpool, take public transportation, or work remotely when possible. If this isn’t possible, explore electric or hybrid options next time you are buying a car. Every little bit can help.
According to the Omega Institute, “In the United States, just under 27% of all energy used in the nation is for transportation, with all but a small amount coming from petroleum. By reducing the amount of energy you use for transportation, you’ll do your part to lower carbon emissions.”
There are hundreds of little ways each of us can do our part and positively impact the environment this year. Stay tuned as we cover many small and large ways you can make your mark in 2020 as a friend to the environment.
